NORTHERN LIGHTS OVER REYKJAVIK

Today or earlier, travelers arrive in Iceland and take either bus or taxi from the Keflavik International Airport to Reykjavik. Special arrangements can be made for travelers who prefer to be picked up from the airport.

Lunch
: Friðheimar tomato farm.
Dinner: At hotel or Eldstó Art Café (3 min walk from the hotel).

The Golden Circle: We drive to Thingvellir and enjoy the historical and geological magic of this place. The Norwegian settlers established the parliament, Althingi, here in the year 930, which is, therefore, the oldest parliament in the world. We continue to Geysir to see the hot spring Strokkur erupt several times and from there we continue to the Gullfoss waterfall. We´ll have lunch at the Friðheimar tomato farm. On the way to our accommodation, we can make a stop at Flúðir to visit the Secret lagoon geothermal pool and stop 40 min for those who want to dip in.

MARCH 2
Lunch: Food you buy in the grocery store to take with you. We´ll be in the middle of nowhere!
Dinner: At the hotel or Eldstó Art Café (3 min walk from the hotel).

Super jeep tour to Thorsmörk where we´ll visit one narrow ravine, Nauthúsagil, where your challenge is to return with your feet and shoes dry! We cross some 15 rivers and enter an empty glacier lagoon that broke in the Eyjafjallajökull eruption leading to massive flooding and damage of roads and bridges. We continue to the beautiful place of Básar where we´ll have lunch. We do a little or long hike in Thorsmörk (depending on your priorities) and on our way back we stop at the canyon Stakkholtsgjá to walk inside it. We then return to our accommodation.

MARCH 3
Lunch: Skógar Bistro
Dinner: Hotel or Systrakaffi
Activity: Glacier hike at 2 pm.

We start the day by visiting the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, the one you can walk behind, and Skogafoss waterfall where we´ll have lunch. We then continue towards Dyrhólaey cape, enjoy the view as well as the rich birdlife. In spring and summertime, you can see puffins there. Now the 2,5 hours glacier hike is on the agenda. We continue to the Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach where you can see this magnificent structure of basalt rock columns and inside the cave by the beach you can see where the architects of the Harpa Concert Hall got their idea for the ceiling! We then continue to our night’s rest.

MARCH 4
Lunch: Skaftafell visitor’s center
Dinner: Hotel or Systrakaffi
Activity: Natural Ice Cave Tour at 2 pm.

We drive to Skaftafell inside the Vatnajökull National Park and Jökulsárlón Glacier lagoon. When in Skaftafell we start the day by hiking to the Svartifoss waterfall, a beautiful path and a magnificent waterfall that cascades down the basalt columnar rocks.  After having lunch, we continue towards the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon with all its icebergs, floating around and maybe with seals lying on it, relaxing. First, you go on a natural ice cave tour on a monster truck. On return you can walk around the ice lagoon to enjoy the beauty and eventually you walk to the so-called Diamond Beach with the melting ice rocks.

MARCH 5
Lunch: In Hvolsvöllur
Dinner: At your own choice

We start our return towards Reykjavík. We’ll stop at the Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon (if not blocked by snow or closed by the authorities) and at the Urriðafoss waterfall. We continue towards Reykjavik and we´ll be there in the early afternoon giving you the opportunity to walk the city center and enjoy some of the city´s excellent restaurants.

MARCH 6
Lunch: Lava Restaurant in the Blue lagoon
Dinner: At your own choice
Blue lagoon day. We depart at 9 in order to be in The Blue Lagoon at 10. You enjoy the geothermal spa for 3-4 hours and have lunch in the Lava Restaurant inside the Blue Lagoon. At 2 pm we depart for a short sightseeing on the Reykjanes Peninsula, we´ll pass the Seltún geothermal spot and lake Kleifarvatn. We´ll be in Reykjavík around 5 pm.

Departure day. Normally travelers like to take it easy in the morning by themselves. The drive to the international airport takes 60 minutes. Drop off can be made on request.

Price per person in double/twin room is $2,300 / $2,500 for single occupancy (USD)

  • Accommodation with breakfast 7 nights.
  • Transport in a bus with driver-guide for 6 days.

Departure all days is at 9 am.

Northern Lights: We will hunt them every night until we see them! No promise though, since this is a natural phenomenon no one controls.

All driver guides are locals with an intensive knowledge of Iceland and long experience driving in winter conditions.

Group size is limited to min 6 and max 20.
